Here the Foundations Are Laid
"Upon all parents there rests the obligation of giving physical, mental and spiritual instruction. It should be the object of every parent to secure to his child a well-balanced, symmetrical character. This is a work of no small magnitude and importance-a work requiring earnest thought and prayer no less than patient, persevering effort. A right foundation must be laid, a framework, strong and firm, erected; and then day by day the work of building, polishing, perfecting, must go forward." - Child Guidance p.17 by Ellen G. White
The foundation for any home should always be on The Rock, "Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain."-Psalm 127:1. Wouldn't it make sense that God fearing parents should not only surrender their children to The Lord but also follow His principles-The Ten Commandments, and make God and His Commandments the foundation of their home? If you have a good foundation, your home cannot be moved. Satan can throw as many storms as he wants, but a home that's rooted in the Lord cannot be moved (read the story of Job).
We cannot simply tell our kids to have a relationship with God, we need to show them why and be living examples. If you have a strong walk with The Lord and follow The Lamb wherever He goes, and with earnest prayer and supplication there's a high chance that your children will follow too. Every person has to make a conscious decision on whom he/she will serve, we cannot save our kids only Jesus can do that. All we can do is train them in the way they should go and pray earnestly for them always, pleading with the Lord that our children will choose Life.
When our children are babes and not fully grown, there is a chance for us, for God, to plant a seed in their hearts and hopefully when they are adults, they will choose to stay with God. God wants what's best for us just like we want what's best for our children. Let us not allow any opportunity for the Devil and his demons to set foot into our homes, whither it be through TV, video games, music, cell phones, computers, etc. It's important to teach our kids to know what's really important and not miss out on life and the little things. Technology has overtaken many, if not most, young minds, it's not healthful for adults let alone children to spend countless hours glued to a screen.
Lets do our best to keep walking with God and being good examples to our children and those around us.
"The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down. Whoever walks in uprightness fears the Lord, but he who is devious in his ways despises him."-Proverbs 14:1-2
"The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish. There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death."-Proverbs 14:11-12
"Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it."-Proverbs 22:6
